Train a rural community nurse
Unemployment is high in Rajshahi, a city in north-western Bangladesh. Through its nursing institute, the Church of Bangladesh is helping to provide young people in Rajshahi with a career as well as meeting a national need for trained nurses. Furthermore, the institute is providing opportunities for young men and women from the marginalised Santal, Urao and Garo tribal communities. Qualified nurses go on to find work in clinics and hospitals, and are often motivated to serve in rural communities, like their own, where healthcare is scarce.
