Action on HIV

Food and board

San Esteban Hostel, in Montevideo, Uruguay, provides accommodation, counselling and fellowship for people who are HIV-positive and living in situations of extreme poverty. For the residents, living with HIV is one further complication in already difficult circumstances.

The hostel offers support that would not be found elsewhere. Its aim is to enable residents to become independent so that they can heal, grow and become integrated members of society. Your gift could help the hostel provide one resident with a day’s food and board.

10 HIV test kits

Of the 33 million people in the world living with HIV/AIDS, two thirds are living in sub-Saharan Africa. Mission hospitals in the region are doing what they can to manage the epidemic.

Test kits, sent by USPG, enable doctors to identify who has the virus so they can intervene by providing safe blood transfusions, anti-retroviral drugs and voluntary counselling.

Train a volunteer carer

The Diocese of Namibia is tackling the devastating effect of HIV/AIDS by running a home-based care programme in Odibo. Local volunteers provide basic healthcare, as well as spiritual, emotional and practical support, including the distribution of food.

Volunteers also seek to educate their communities, to help combat the stigma which threatens to isolate those living with HIV/AIDS. Your gift could help train and resource these amazing carers.
